Boutique AML/CFT and Sanctions advisory in Malta. Senior, judgement‑led support for Subject Persons. Learn about our team, values and approach.
Komply is a specialised Financial Crime Compliance consultancy dedicated to helping regulated professionals meet their AML/CFT and Sanctions obligations with clarity and confidence. We work exclusively in the financial crime space, supporting Subject Persons who operate in high-stakes environments where the cost of getting compliance wrong can be regulatory, reputational or even criminal.
Our role is to strengthen your ability to identify, assess and manage financial crime risks in a way that is proportionate, practical and aligned with supervisory expectations. We help you interpret obligations under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations (PMLFTR) and the National Interest (Enabling Powers) Act (NIA) through a risk-based approach that makes compliance both defensible and operationally workable.
Clients turn to us because they want more than templates. They want informed judgement, senior expertise and a partner who understands regulatory intent. We bring structure, consistency and calm to complex compliance work, applying methodologies that stand up to audits and inspections. Whether supporting CDD, advising on risk frameworks, guiding a supervisory review or strengthening day-to-day processes, we treat your obligations with the seriousness they deserve.
Komply is led by Karen Frendo and Alison Vella, supported by a trained and dedicated team of advisory managers and CDD specialists. Our experience spans credit institutions, payment institutions, investment firms, CSPs, audit firms, legal professionals and other Subject Persons. We have also collaborated with regulators in supervisory work, giving us grounded insight into how compliance is assessed in practice.
Our clients value our discretion, our depth of expertise and the way we take ownership of their challenges as if they were our own. Above all, they value the assurance that their compliance framework is credible, proportionate and ready for scrutiny.
Komply was established in 2016 with a simple purpose: to give Subject Persons access to credible, hands-on compliance expertise at a time when regulatory expectations were rising and the market lacked consistent quality.
What began as a focused consultancy for notaries quickly expanded to accountants, auditors, CSPs and other regulated professionals. The firm grew steadily, building a reputation for discretion, reliability and senior judgement. Over the years, Komply introduced CDDgenie to bring structure and efficiency to client onboarding and CDD operations, reflecting the belief that technology should support judgement rather than replace it.
Today, Komply remains boutique by design. We maintain close partnerships with clients, provide direct access to senior expertise and continue evolving our advisory and technology to meet the increasing complexity of Malta’s regulatory landscape.
Our team brings together seasoned financial crime compliance professionals dedicated to supporting regulated businesses with clarity, precision and practical expertise. With extensive experience across banking, regulatory engagement and advisory work, we apply informed judgement, rigorous standards and a calm, structured approach to even the most complex compliance challenges.
We combine strategic insight with hands‑on implementation, ensuring that every recommendation is both defensible and operationally workable. Our client‑centric mindset means we take the time to understand each organisation’s unique context, pressures and goals, allowing us to deliver solutions that are proportionate, sustainable and aligned with real‑world regulatory expectations.
Driven by integrity, excellence and a commitment to high‑quality outcomes, our team is focused on enabling professionals to operate with confidence, protect their reputation and meet their obligations in an increasingly demanding regulatory landscape.
